Invested in the Future of KISD
Why I’m Running
Like many of you, my husband and I moved to Keller ISD because of it’s great schools. But now that my daughter is set to start kindergarten at Bette Perot this fall, I’m worried for the future of this district. We are facing a historic $27 million budget crisis, a state government that has refused to fund public schools, and a board that’s been embroiled in political controversy at the expense of our kids.
I’m running to support educators, empower parents, increase transparency, create a safe and welcoming environment for all students, and fight for the money we need to maintain the level of excellence Keller ISD is known for.
My friends and supporters know me as someone who reads board policy, asks hard questions, and digs deep into messy school finance details. I have a long history of volunteering and advocating at the state and local levels. I’ve helped organize a rally at the Capitol in Austin for increased public education funding and testified before legislators in support of teachers. Closer to home I’ve been a student mentor, the vice president of my former neighborhood association, served on the board of a voting-rights nonprofit, served on the finance and bylaws committees at my current HOA, and more.
When I’m not helping other moms make sense of complicated school finance issues I enjoy hiking with my family, I’ve been a seamstress for over 20 years, and I started a gardening club in my neighborhood. I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast in Corpus Christi where my mother was a public school teacher for many years. Later, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
My mother-in-law is a school nurse in KISD, four of my nephews attend the Timber Creek feeder pattern and soon my daughter will, too. I’m fully invested in the future of KISD and when my friends and fellow parents needed a new voice on the board of trustees I answered the call.
With recent board scandals, trustee resignations, and the bombshell of massive district-wide staffing cuts, voters are paying attention. Please support me in fighting to save the schools we love.
